Congratulations to the Kilrush Askamore U10 hurlers on winning the Martin Codd Shield at Rathnure GAA Club on Saturday, 27th June.
The lads battled through difficult wet and windy conditions in a very competitive group featuring Ballyfad, Duffry Rovers and Inistioge to qualify for the Martin Codd Shield and a quarter-final against Glynn-Barntown.
In a thrilling quarter-final, Askamore edged Glynn-Barntown by a single point, with Tom Buttle calmly slotting over the winning score in the final minute.
The semi-final against Bannow produced an incredible finish. Trailing by five points with just a minute remaining, Harry Ruth fired a low 65 to the net before Conor Devereux intercepted the resulting puck-out, burst through the defence and blasted the ball into the net to complete a dramatic comeback and secure a place in the final.
The final against a strong Faythe Harriers side was another fiercely contested battle. Every player played their part, with Jack Doyle outstanding in defence and Logan Flemming making a number of excellent saves in goal throughout the day. Askamore showed great determination to hold on for a deserved two-point victory and lift the Martin Codd Shield.
A huge congratulations to all the players on a fantastic achievement. A sincere thank you to the coaches, parents and supporters who braved the awful weather throughout the day to cheer on the team - your encouragement and support made a huge difference.
